Slots Stretch To The Edge

A follow-up to the template editor fixes in 0.4.17: a slot can now be pulled flush to the edge of the page.

Fixed

• A slot would not stretch all the way to the edge. Pulling towards the right or the bottom stopped a little short, and no amount of dragging closed the gap. A slot can now be pulled flush to the page.
• The opposite edge could drift as a stretch reached the boundary, so the slot slid instead of growing. It now stays exactly where it is.
• Dragging past the edge of the page stalled. It keeps working now, so getting a slot flush no longer needs a steady hand.

Rotated & Stretched Slots Behave

September 18, 2026

A round of template editor fixes for anyone who rotates or resizes photo slots — stretching now moves only the edge you drag, and the whole page is reachable again.

Fixed

• Stretching a slot moved the whole slot. Pull the bottom-right corner now and the top-left stays exactly where it is. Slots no longer drift while you resize them.
• Part of the page could not be used. A rotated slot refused to move into a band along two edges — roughly a tenth of the height on a 4×6, and a quarter of it on a 2×6 strip. That band is gone.
• A rotated slot could get stuck. Rotating a wide slot could freeze it in one spot, refusing to move at all.
• Aspect-locked slots lost their shape when snapping to the grid. A slot locked to 1:1 stays square now.
• Arrow keys, duplicates and typed-in values ignored the page edges and the slot’s rotation. Nudging a slot can no longer push it off the page.

Improved

• The rotate handle follows your cursor, and holding Shift turns in 15° steps. Before, a small drag could spin a slot most of a full turn.

Helping Camera Support Get Better

Your booth can now tell us which cameras genuinely work, so we can say what to expect before an event — and you can switch it off whenever you like.

New

• Help improve camera support. Photuna works with far more camera models than we can test ourselves — the Nikon range alone covers 31 camera families. Your booth can now report the make and model of the camera you connect, and whether it managed to take a photo and show live view.
• Nothing about you or your guests is sent. No photos, no guest details, no event information, nothing about your business. Only the camera’s make and model.
• Off whenever you want. Settings → Camera → Help improve camera support. Turning it off also erases the record your booth was keeping.

Good to know

• A camera only counts as working once it has both taken a full-resolution photo and shown live view on a real booth. Being plugged in and recognised is not enough.
• If your booth is offline at a venue, nothing is lost — reports wait on the PC and send when it reconnects.

Nikon DSLRs Join USB Camera Control

USB camera control now works with Nikon’s D-series DSLRs and the older mirrorless bodies, not only the Z series — with nothing new to set up.

New

• Nikon DSLRs in USB camera control (beta). 31 camera families, from the D3, D300 and D700 through the D600, D750, D810, D850, D7200, D7500, D500, D5, D6 and D780, and the Z5, Z6, Z7, Z50, Z6II, Z7II, Z8 and Z9. Cameras older than the D90 are not included, as Nikon does not provide 64-bit support for them.
• Nothing new to set up. There is still one USB camera setting. Plug the camera in and the booth works out which one it is and how to talk to it.
• The same features as the other brands. Full-resolution photos sent straight to the PC so no memory card is needed, live view, battery level, and ISO, shutter speed, aperture and white balance from the dashboard.

Good to know

• Before an event, turn the camera on and close NX Tether, Camera Control Pro and Nikon Transfer — a Nikon camera answers one app at a time.
• Tell us how you get on. Nikon support is built from Nikon’s own documentation and has not yet been tried on a real camera, so if you have one of these bodies please let us know whether it worked.

A Premium New Booth Look

Every guest screen now shares one clean, modern style in your brand colours, frames show as real-print thumbnails, and the dashboard loads once with a collapsible sidebar.

New

• A premium booth design. One top bar with your logo and a quiet timer, buttons and highlights in your brand colour, thin borders instead of heavy shadows, and a quick fade between screens. Works on light and dark backgrounds.
• Frame thumbnails of the real print. Guests see their own photos, in their chosen tone, under each frame, including landscape templates. Tones sit in two scrolling rows.
• A cleaner photo screen. A large countdown number, shot progress as dots, and a “Getting your photos ready” note after the last shot.
• Show logo on every screen. A new Appearance setting to keep the logo to the welcome and thank-you screens.
• A collapsible dashboard sidebar. Shrink it to icons from the button beside the logo; your choice is remembered.

Fixed

• The dashboard loaded twice. It now loads once behind a skeleton and appears fully up to date.
• Uneven logo sizes and a repeated payment amount. The top-bar logo is the same size on every screen, and payment shows the amount once.

Email Sharing, Guest Survey & Custom Tones

Guests can email themselves their gallery and answer a short survey, you can add your own disclaimer, and your own tones and LUTs now carry through to motion clips.

New

• Email me my photos. Guests type their address beside the QR code and receive their gallery link. Without internet, addresses wait on the booth PC and send when it reconnects; they are deleted from the PC once sent and never stored in the cloud.
• Guest survey. Up to five star-rating, multiple-choice or short-answer questions after printing. Answers appear in Analytics and export as CSV.
• Your own disclaimer. Add your terms to the consent screen and require a tick to agree. The exact wording each guest agreed to is saved with their consent.
• Custom tones and LUT import. Build tones with sliders or import .cube LUTs from Lightroom, Photoshop or DaVinci Resolve. They apply to prints, the gallery photo, motion clips and each pose’s clip, and sync to your other booth PCs.

Fixed

• Motion clips with built-in frames. Sessions using a built-in frame came back without a motion clip from the booth. They now get their clip, frame included.
• Guest consent is recorded. Consent was shown to guests but never saved to your account. It is saved now, even when the booth is offline.
• Custom tones print as designed. They were matched to whichever built-in tone their name resembled.
• Taskbar icon. The Electron icon no longer appears when the app is started without its shortcut.

Canon Cameras & Live View Everywhere

Canon EOS cameras join Nikon Z and Sony in USB camera control, and the camera’s live view now shows on every booth screen that uses the camera.

New

• Canon EOS cameras in USB camera control (beta). Full-resolution photos, live view, battery level, and ISO, shutter speed, aperture and white balance from the app. Tested on an EOS M50 Mark II. Set the camera’s mode dial to M (or Av / Tv) to change exposure, and close EOS Utility and EOS Webcam Utility before connecting.
• The camera’s live view on every camera screen. With Photo source set to USB camera, the welcome screen’s Live Camera background and the Branding preview show the camera too, and live view keeps running from screen to screen so the photo screen is ready at once.
• The Photuna icon and logo. The app shows the Photuna icon in the taskbar, on shortcuts and in Task Manager, and the logo sits at the top of the dashboard sidebar.

Fixed

• Photo source stays on USB camera. Choosing it could quietly switch back to the webcam a moment later.
• Faster, clearer camera connection. The app only looks for the camera brand that is plugged in, and says so plainly when another app is holding the camera.

Booths in Sync, Offline QR Codes & USB Cameras

Your booths now keep each other up to date, guests get their QR code even without Wi-Fi, and Nikon Z and Sony cameras can take the photos. Update every booth: one still on an older version can bring back items you delete.

New

• Booths keep each other up to date. Edit an event, template, frame or colour palette on one device and your other booths pick it up within a few seconds, without overwriting newer changes made elsewhere. Deleted items stay deleted. Booth settings and appearance stay per device.
• QR codes work when the Wi-Fi drops. If a gallery can’t upload, the booth still shows the QR code with a note that the photos will be ready once it’s back online, and uploads them automatically when the connection returns. Offline mode still never uploads.
• USB camera control (beta) for Nikon Z and Sony. Full-resolution photos from a camera connected by USB, with its live view shown to guests and used for motion clips — no webcam needed. Set ISO, shutter speed, aperture and white balance, take a test photo, check the battery, and see how many recent photos came from the camera. If the camera misses a shot, the booth uses its live view or the webcam instead. Choose it under Settings → Camera → Photo source; the webcam stays the default.
• Canon support is still pending. It will follow once we receive Canon’s official SDK.

Improved

• Guest photos are better protected. Photos in cloud storage can now only be read by the account that took them. Guest gallery links keep working.
• A clearer gallery page while photos upload. Guests who scan a QR code before the photos arrive see “Your gallery isn’t ready yet” instead of “not found”.
• The installer is larger (about 235 MB) because it now includes camera support. Photuna is not made or endorsed by Nikon or Sony.

Booths Stay Running

September 13, 2026

If you have had to restart the app during long events to get QR codes working again, this release fixes the cause. Update before your next event.

Fixed

• Booths no longer freeze about an hour after opening. When the app quietly renewed its sign-in in the background, it could stop working: galleries stayed on “Preparing your gallery” and the booth stopped syncing until it was restarted. A booth left closed for a while could freeze again straight away on the next launch.

Improved

• Galleries are ready about twice as fast. Photos and clips now upload several at a time instead of one after another, so guests get their QR code sooner — most noticeably on slower venue Wi-Fi.
• Missing motion clips can be completed in the cloud. If a booth could not finish a session’s motion clip, it can now be created afterwards instead of the gallery going without one.
• Groundwork for tablet booths. Each session now saves a small layout file alongside its clips, so motion clips can be made in the cloud for devices that cannot make them themselves. Windows booths still create their own clips.

Online Galleries, Fixed

Online galleries have never worked outside our own development machines. If your booth has been printing without a QR code, this is the release that fixes it.

Fixed

• Online galleries now work on an installed copy. The part of the app that uploads a session had no way to reach our servers once installed, so it stopped before it even tried — no QR code appeared and nothing reached your gallery. Sessions saved on your booth were never affected; only the online copy was missing.
• Galleries save against the right account. Uploads were refused for every operator but us, so a gallery could not be recorded even when the photos reached our storage.
• Listing an event’s galleries and creating an event QR failed on every installed copy, for the same reason as the upload.
• A failed upload now says why. The print screen showed only “Gallery upload failed” and discarded the actual reason. The reason now appears under it, and the app keeps a log our support can read.
• AirPrint no longer appears on Windows. The app decided it was running on an iPad from a check that was true in every build, so desktop installs offered an iOS-only printing option that could never work.
• An expired session now asks you to sign in again, instead of showing a message about the build not being configured.
• GCash and Maya payments made in the app now activate your plan reliably, even if you close the checkout window before paying.

Receipts & Reliable Payments

Every payment now has a receipt you can print, and a payment finishes on its own whether or not the checkout window is still open.

New

• Billing history. Every payment on your account, from the app and from studiophotuna.com alike, under Billing and on your Account page. Open one for a receipt carrying the plan, the period it covers, how you paid and the reference — save it as a PDF or print it. Amounts show what was actually charged, so a discounted payment reads as what you really paid.
• PayPal payments complete on our side. A payment goes through whether the app is open, closed, or on another machine, and you land on a result screen that says what happened — paid, cancelled, declined or under review — instead of the home page.
• PayMongo payments are confirmed even with the window closed, so paying by QR on your phone after closing checkout still activates your plan.
• The checkout dialog re-checks when you return to the app, offers an “I've paid — check now” button, and takes one last look as you close it.

Fixed

• A payment could be approved and then reversed because nothing finalised it once the checkout window closed.
• Payment problems showed a technical message instead of the reason.
• Print and Save as PDF on a receipt produced a blank page.
• Booth timers froze while another window sat in front of the app.
• A plan is applied once per payment, and a failed activation is reported rather than showing a plan that was never saved.

Device Seats & Per-Device Monitoring

Each plan now covers a set number of booth devices, and you can see, name and manage every device on your account.

New

• Device seats per plan: Free 1, Trial 2, Monthly 3, Yearly 5. Each computer running the app uses one seat. Phones and browsers used for Remote Booth never do.
• Every device, individually. Account Center → Devices lists each one with a name you can change (it starts as the Windows computer name), its type, the app version it runs, when it was last used, and its seat number, so you can tell your booths apart and spot one that hasn't updated.
• Your count wherever you look: in the Account Center header, as a meter on the Billing page next to Events and Templates, and on your studiophotuna.com Account page.
• Free a seat on the spot. If every seat is taken, a new device shows your devices with a Release button, so you can make room without needing another computer. Devices unused for 90 days are released automatically.

Your devices stay working

• A device already on your account is never locked out, even if you're over your plan's number. The limit only applies to adding a new one.
• A booth that's offline when it opens starts normally. A device is never blocked because the check couldn't be made.

Fixed

• A booth in daily use could look inactive and be cleared after 90 days, because its last-used time was only recorded the first time it signed in. It now updates every time the app opens.
• Releasing a device could say it had been released even when the release failed.
• Booth PCs set up from the same disk image are now counted as separate devices instead of being merged into one.

PayPal Checkout & Device Management

You can now pay for your plan with PayPal as well as PayMongo, and see every machine signed into your account.

New

• Choose how you pay for your plan. Subscription checkout now offers PayMongo (GCash, Maya, GrabPay, cards) or PayPal (PayPal balance, cards). The same choice is available on studiophotuna.com.
• Devices tab in Account Center. Every machine signed into your account, what it is, when it was last used, and which one you are on. Release a booth PC you have sold or reformatted, and use Sign out everywhere to end every session at once if a machine goes missing.
• Payment gateway setup rebuilt. Connecting a gateway is now three steps — choose a provider, connect your account, switch it on for an event — each ticking off as you finish it, so it is clear what is left before a guest can be charged. A summary panel shows your gateway, whether it is live or in test mode, your currency, and how many events are actually charging.
• Help Center rewritten. Troubleshooting for the problems that stop a booth soonest, each leading with the fix; a pre-event checklist; and what each Remote Booth button actually does.
• Camera settings show what your camera can really do. Resolutions beyond your camera's maximum are greyed out, and the measured output size is shown with a flag when the camera returns something smaller than requested.

Security

• Closed a gap in subscription activation where a payment made for one plan could be used to claim a more expensive one. The plan and the buyer are now read back from the payment itself rather than taken on trust.

Fixed

• Yearly subscribers who signed up through the website were getting 6 months of gallery retention instead of 12, and their plan name did not show in Billing. Both fixed.
• Help and setup text pointed at sections that had since been renamed.
• Dark mode now covers the account tab bar, the security rows and the new panels, which previously had no dark styling at all.

• Galleries are included with every paid plan. Retention follows your billing cycle — 6 months monthly, 12 months yearly — and the separate Gallery Plus and Business tiers are retired. Anyone who bought the old add-on keeps what they paid for.
• Settings reorganised. Appearance and alerts moved out of Account Center into Settings, and Billing became a destination of its own in the left navigator rather than a tab buried in your account.
• Controls you can read at a glance. Toggles and segmented buttons in place of dropdowns, steppers for numbers, and labelled fields with real section headings throughout Settings and the event workspace.
• Session tab split into sections — Mode, Guest Flow, Rental/Business, Session Settings and Photo Storage — in the order you actually set them up.
• Discount codes at checkout. Enter a code before paying and see what it is worth before you commit.
• Copy templates and frames from an existing event when creating a new one, instead of starting from nothing or inheriting silently.

Fixed

• Deleting an event did not stick — it reappeared after a restart.
• New events picked up the previous event's settings and design instead of starting clean.
• The Templates and Frames library snapped back to its previous view after applying a layout.
• The Preview tab's gallery link opened a blank page, and several controls there did nothing — those are now marked as not yet active rather than looking functional.
• Reloading the dashboard returned you to wherever you had been rather than closing the open event and going Home.

Update Installer Fix

A single fix for the in-app update banner, which could strand a finished download at 0% and leave "Install & restart" out of reach.

Fixed

• Fixed the update banner freezing at "Downloading 0%" once an update finished downloading. The download completed, but the banner reset to zero exactly when it should have advanced, so "Install & restart" was never reachable. Updating from Settings → Check for updates was unaffected.

Event Isolation, Full Screen & Security Hardening

Events are properly isolated from one another: a new event no longer inherits the last one's branding, settings or design, and Templates and Frames now show what is actually applied to the event you have open. The app also opens full screen, and a storage-cleanup permission gap has been closed.

• Opens full screen — Fills the display on launch; F11 toggles.
• Copy templates and frames to a new event — An optional toggle when creating an event, listing each source event with its template and frame counts. Branding and settings always start fresh, and the source event is never modified.
• Applied and Library views — Templates and Frames now open on Applied to this event, with Library for browsing everything. Previously these always listed the whole shared library, which made a new event look like it had inherited the last one's design.
• Reload returns to Home — Closes the open event rather than restoring the last screen.

Security

• Event storage cleanup locked down — The routine that deletes an event's photos and gallery records ran with elevated privileges, never checked the caller, and was reachable by any signed-in account, so one operator could delete another operator's event photos. It now verifies ownership and restricts access. This fix is applied on our side; no action is needed from operators.

• Fixed deleted events reappearing after a restart.
• Fixed new events opening with the previous event's branding and settings.
• Fixed saving settings overwriting every event. Booth-level settings still apply to all events; event-level settings now apply only to the event you have open.
• Fixed the template editor discarding in-progress work and carrying frames between templates.

• Fixed the "Account services are not configured" error on every event delete.

• Template Editor overhaul — The editor toolbar is now icon-based for a cleaner layout. Slider controls replace raw number inputs for opacity, border radius, and similar properties. Dark mode is fully supported throughout the editor. New slot actions include Clone (duplicate a slot in one click) and Toggle Fit (switch between fill and fit modes). Fullscreen editing mode is available for large-screen setups. Aspect ratio is now locked by default to prevent accidental distortion.
• Visual tone preview — The tone selection screen now shows real photo samples from your session instead of abstract swatches. A horizontal filter strip replaces the raw number display, making tones easier to compare at a glance. The preset library has been expanded with new styles.
• Guided onboarding tour — First-run tour walks new operators through Home, Events, the Template Editor, Settings, Reports, and Help Center. An interactive spotlight highlights each area as you go. The Create Event step is gated — you must create a real event before the tour advances. A "Take a tour" button in Settings replays the tour at any time.
• Health monitor — 24/7 booth health monitoring with background checks for disk space, memory usage, session folder count, and app uptime. Alerts surface in the dashboard before a problem affects guests.

• Discount code support — Operators can apply a discount code during PayMongo checkout. The original price is shown with a strikethrough and the discounted total is highlighted in the payment modal header and QR screen.
• Gallery QR — no admin access required — The QR Gallery modal now works in the distributed app. Gallery slug lookup and creation use the operator's own authenticated Supabase session instead of a server-side admin key.
• Gallery Branding auto-login — Clicking "Gallery Branding" on an event now opens the branding editor in the browser and logs the operator in automatically. No manual login on the gallery site is required.

• Fixed Windows installer build failing with 'CI' is not recognized — build scripts now use cross-env for compatibility with Windows CMD and PowerShell.

• Event gallery — Guests now land on a per-session picker when they scan the event QR code, rather than seeing every photo from the event at once. Each card shows a preview photo so guests can identify their own group quickly. The event QR is generated automatically when the event is created — no extra step required.

Fixed

• Printing — Resolved an issue where the selected frame overlay was not applied to the print composite. The gallery video (animated output) now also correctly reflects the chosen frame, tone, and background color.

Gallery QR Workflows, Sample Filters & Reliability Overhaul

Gallery QR workflows, template library improvements, profile management fixes, and a significant reliability overhaul for post-login data loading.

• Pre-session Event Gallery QR — Admins can generate an Event Gallery QR code for any event before a single photo is taken. Open the Gallery QR modal and click Generate QR — the link is created instantly, persisted for 90 days, and can be shared with clients right away so they're ready to scan the moment the booth starts shooting.
• Gallery QR button per event in Events Library — Every event card now has a QR Gallery action button, active only when the account has an active Gallery add-on. It opens a modal showing both the pre-session event QR and all individual session QR codes, with copy-link and Download QR options.
• Download QR as PNG — Both event-level and session-level QR codes can now be downloaded as a high-resolution 512×512 PNG directly from the Gallery QR modal — no screenshotting required.

• Auto-refresh on window focus and periodic license sync — The app now silently refreshes your license status when the window regains focus (throttled to once every 30 seconds) and on a 5-minute interval while running. Events are also re-read on focus so multi-device or web-app changes appear without restarting.
• Template limit enforced in Samples section — Applying or adding a sample template now respects your account's template limit, with a toast notification when the limit is reached — matching the behavior already in place for the main templates library.
• Profile photo picker reliability — The "Update photo" button in Account → Profile is more reliable and now shows a loading state on the button while the upload is in progress.
• Manual reload button for Events Library — A refresh icon in the Events Library header lets you manually re-read events from the local store without a full page reload — useful when events were created from another device and the focus-based sync hasn't fired yet.

• Template limit not enforced when limit was zero — A logic bug meant an entitlement of exactly 0 templates was treated as unlimited instead of blocked. Template limits are now enforced correctly at every tier.
• Free plan users limited to 1 template instead of 3 — Free-tier accounts were capped at 1 template due to a hardcoded default; corrected to the intended 3-template free plan limit.
• Saving profile wiped existing avatar URL — Saving your profile while the photo field was empty (e.g. after a slow page load) could accidentally erase your previously uploaded avatar. Your avatar is now preserved unless you actually upload a new one.
• Uploaded avatar not refreshing in browser due to caching — After uploading a new photo, the old one sometimes kept showing because the browser served a cached copy. New uploads now always display immediately.
• Cloud sync could clobber local data with empty values — A merge-strategy bug meant syncing with the cloud could occasionally overwrite locally-saved settings, appearance, and template data with blank values. Local data now always takes priority for anything not already present in the cloud.
• Events, templates, frames, and palettes occasionally failing to load — A storage bug could cause these lists to come back in the wrong data shape when empty, silently breaking the app's ability to merge and display them. Fixed so empty lists always load correctly.
